Frequently Asked Questions

Who may attend the course?
The course is open to adults of all ages. Young people of 15 and older people in their 80’s have taken and benefited from the course. We endeavour to meet the needs of participants with physical or sensory impairments. If you have a disability that you think might affect your ability to participate fully in the course, please telephone us for advice before booking.

Is the course a traumatic experience?
Only if you want it to be! Your experience of the course is very much what you want to make it. You may choose to be reserved about what’s going on, you may want to make yourself the centre of attention, you may look upon the experience with caution or you may decide it is a lot of fun! You will be fully supported in whatever you choose to do.

Do I have to reveal private details of my life?
In order for the course to be tailored as far as possible to individual needs, participants are asked to complete a registration form prior to the course, which includes questions about their personal history. All information is kept in the strictest confidence. There is no requirement on the course to do anything, discuss anything or even say anything if you don’t feel you want to. However the course is designed to provide a safe and confidential environment where anything may be said without fear of criticism or judgement and where you are accepted simply for who you are. The initiative will always be left to you to say or do whatever you feel is appropriate at any particular moment.

Why can’t I do this on my own?
The value of one person willing to speak up in the group and describe their fears, aspirations, doubts and concerns, becomes a catalyst for the rest of the group as people start recognising "That’s how I feel!" Very soon the feeling that I’m the only one who feels like this fades and dissipates and a mutual trust and safety grows. In hearing the experience and understandings of others, we recognise and learn more about ourselves.

Is the course aligned to any particular religious beliefs?
No. The course has a spiritual basis that draws from various philosophies. It is based on transpersonal ideology and is open to people of any religious belief or none.

What if I need somewhere to stay?
On the first evening of the course, there is an opportunity for course participants to request accommodation over the weekends and it is usual in most circumstances for other participants to offer it without additional cost. This becomes part of the course experience and is a step in trust.

Is there any support offered after the course?
Yes. During the course, you will have developed a rapport with other course participants, your sub-group, and group leader. An address list is provided for all course participants to remain in contact. Course reunions are organised, and sub-groups may meet for many years afterwards. Personal support sessions are also available, please contact the office for further information. Refresher sessions, meditation evenings and further courses are all part of the ongoing support offered. An on-line community is also available to course participants.

Can I speak to someone who has done the course?
Certainly. By telephoning the office, you can be put in touch with people who have completed the course recently. You can also meet previous course participants at the free introductory talks and/or post course Guest Sessions. Please see Calendar or call the office for dates and locations.
